First Laundry Day

Our Suitcases were starting to get low on summer clothes and we finally bit the bullet and took ourselves to a laundromat. It was the first time the kids had gone to a laundromat, something Elijah and I had done for years, but not since the kids were born. It was interesting to look at the laundry process from their perspective.

Interviewing Izzy:

Q: What was the most interesting thing you saw at the laundromat?
A: When it went on spin.

Q: What was the hardest thing about the laundromat?
A: When we had to wait.

Q: What was surprising?
A: I thought you would just have to put the clothes in, but then when we got there it turned out you had to put money in too.

Q: What did you do while you were waiting?
A: I played with Eli.

Interviewing Eli:

Q: What was the most interesting thing you saw at the laundromat?
A: The cycles.

Q: What was the hardest thing about the laundromat?
A: The waiting.

Q: What was surprising?
A: I didn't expect there to be so many washers and dryers, I didn't expect there to be all the walls covered with dryers and just the washers in the middle.

Q: What was your favorite thing that you got to do at the laundromat?
A: Put in the money.

Interviewing Hannah:

Q: What was the most interesting thing you saw at the laundromat?
A: We have to put money in.

Q: What was the hardest thing about the laundromat?
A: We have to wait.

Q: What do you remember about the laundromat?
A: We have to start it.

Interviewing Elijah:

Q: What was the most interesting thing you saw at the laundromat?
A: They had laundry bags that had the name of the laundromat on them and we got to buy one.

Q: What was the hardest thing about the laundromat?
A: We had to guess how many quarters to put in the dryers.

Q: What was surprising?
A: The triple load washer was really really fast.

Q: What did you do while you were waiting?
A: I bought coffee and drank it.

It was a really nice laundromat and all the people there were friendly. The one we found was in the same shopping center with the local Santa Fe food COOP, a fitness studio, a groovy massage place, a local coffee shop, and a hydroponics store. We decided we had found the right place for us. We fit in pretty well. Of course we had not gotten enough cash to actually get the amount of quarters we needed to do all of our laundry. It's clearly been a while since we've paid for clean clothes in quarters. Also we had torn one of our two laundry bags, so we had to buy another one in order to bring the clean clothes back to the car. Elijah went over to the coffee place and brought us back lattes and milk to drink while we waited.
